Before It's Permanent — or After It Went Wrong

Second Opinion Consultation

A second opinion is a private evaluation of your diagnosis or treatment plan by a specialist before you commit to major, irreversible dental work — or after previous work has failed. Dr. Mamaly Reshad is a prosthodontist in Beverly Hills, the dental specialty focused on complex restoration, and the dentist that surgeons, periodontists, and general dentists refer their most difficult cases to.

Why Get a Second Opinion From a Prosthodontist?

Because a misdiagnosis can result in unnecessary procedures, wasting both time and money on your treatment plan. Major restorative dentistry — dental implants, All-on-4, porcelain veneers, full mouth reconstruction — is permanent. Once teeth are prepared or implants are placed, the decision cannot be undone, so the treatment plan deserves the same scrutiny you would give any serious medical decision.

A prosthodontist is a specialist with three additional years of ADA-accredited training in exactly this territory: diagnosing complex cases and planning the restoration and replacement of teeth. Fewer than 2% of practicing dentists are prosthodontists — only about 750 practice in the entire United States. When you meet with Dr. Reshad, your goals are discussed and a full analysis of your condition is performed. Only then are you given options as to what treatments might be necessary.

When Should You Seek a Second Opinion?

Before committing: you have been quoted a full-arch implant, veneer, or full mouth reconstruction plan and want a specialist to verify the diagnosis, the sequencing, and whether every proposed procedure is actually necessary.

When something feels wrong, in one tooth or in many: a crown that traps food, an implant that is loose or painful, veneers you are unhappy with, a reconstruction that never looked or functioned the way it should, or a bite that changed after treatment.

When your case is complex: multiple missing teeth, prior dental work that needs to be redone, bone loss, or a history of treatments that did not last. Dr. Reshad is often the preferred choice for many surgeons, periodontists, and general dentists who refer to him the most difficult, complicated, and challenging dental cases — including work that must be planned again, correctly this time.

What Does the Consultation Involve?

Your second opinion begins with a private consultation where your condition is evaluated and accurately diagnosed. Dr. Reshad reviews your existing records, X-rays, and treatment plan, examines your mouth, and performs a full analysis of your condition — including CT scans, photographs, and impressions where needed.

You will leave understanding what is actually going on in your mouth, which parts of your existing plan are sound, and what your real options are — including more conservative ones. There is no obligation to transfer your care; the consultation's purpose is an accurate diagnosis and an honest plan.

Sometimes things don't go to plan.

Dentistry is always hard. It is always challenging. Most of the time your dentist does their best, and most of the time the work is right. But sometimes things do not go to plan, and that is when an opinion helps.

Some of what happens during treatment is teething problems. You might bite your cheeks at first, and a little tweak makes it better. Temporary teeth are made from softer material and can break; that does not mean anything is wrong. Other things are not normal: when something is worryingly off, when you want reassurance that your dentist is on the right path, or when you want to change provider. That is what Dr. Reshad is here for.

Which one of these is it?

You can have a problem with one or two teeth, or with a whole mouth of teeth. Both belong here. Choose the kind of treatment you had, or are being offered, and the chapter lists the problems patients bring, what is normal while you adjust, what is not, and how it can be put right.

What About Work That Has Already Failed?

Correcting failed work is among the most demanding work in dentistry, and it is the caseload colleagues refer to Dr. Reshad. Every revision follows the same principle as every case: a rigorous diagnosis of why the original failed, then done correctly this time, with an in-house laboratory and over 30 years of experience in complex reconstruction.

Many revisions are small: one crown, one implant, a bridge. Some are a whole mouth. These are cases already on this site, by scale.

"Great dentist. My fiance and I came in with some serious issues that a previous dentist created. Dr. Reshad was extremely kind, patient and understanding with the severity of our issues and has begun to correct and fix all the problems which we are forever thankful for. We definitely will continue to recommend ArtLab Dentistry to anyone!!!"

Frequently Asked Questions

A dental second opinion is a private evaluation of your diagnosis or proposed treatment plan by a different clinician, ideally a specialist. It confirms the diagnosis is accurate, that every proposed procedure is necessary, and that no better or more conservative option has been missed.

Before the surgery, because implants are permanent. Get one if you have been quoted a large implant or full-arch plan, if the diagnosis was quick, if bone grafting was proposed without detailed imaging, or if you simply want a specialist to verify the plan before you commit.

A prosthodontist is a dental specialist with three additional years of ADA-accredited training in restoring and replacing teeth; fewer than 2% of dentists hold the credential. Complex implant, veneer and reconstruction planning is what the specialty exists for, and a misdiagnosis at the planning stage is the most expensive mistake in restorative dentistry.

Yes. Revision cases are a core part of his caseload. Surgeons, periodontists and general dentists refer him their most difficult cases, including failing implants, unsatisfactory veneers and reconstructions that need to be redone.
