Two implants, or four?

Second Opinion: Implant-Retained Dentures

A removable denture that clips onto implants, on two small attachments or on a bar. When it still moves, wears out its clips, cracks or sits on sore gums, a second opinion looks at why.

Which one of these is it?

Choose what you are noticing.

What are you noticing?

It still moves when I chew

What it can mean

Two implants hold the front of a denture but let the back rock. If the bite or the denture base is not right, that rocking is felt with every chew.

Normal, or worth a look?

Some movement is expected on two attachments. A lot is worth a look: it may need a better bite, a different attachment, or more implants.

Are you suitable for two implants, or do you need four?

Adding a couple of implants under a lower denture can be enough to stabilise it, and for many people it changes how they eat and speak. It is not for everyone. Some people need more implants, a bar joining them, or fixed teeth that do not come out at all.

The decision rests on the bone, the bite, how the denture is used, and what you expect from it. A second opinion sets those out before more is done.

If something is not right, ask.

Dentistry is always challenging, and most dentists do the best they can. Some things are part of settling in and are fixed with small tweaks. If something is worryingly off, if you want reassurance that you are on the right path, or if you want to change provider, Dr. Reshad is here for that.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Retentive inserts wear with use and are replaced periodically as part of maintenance. If they are wearing out much faster than that, the implants may not be parallel or the denture may be rocking, and it is worth having it assessed.
